Description
This painting was created as part of a collection I painted called The Third Day. I yearned to paint the diverse nature and wonder of God’s creation. I wanted to paint what He created on the Third Day. It was paradise. He did it in one day, I struggled for months.
“Then God said, ‘let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed on it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so.” (Gen 1:11)
I think God knew that there would be immeasurable pain in the world. That’s why, before he created what He loved most, humanity, He carefully prepared a place for us. Yes, it was complete with everything we needed for survival, but also what we needed for our souls….beauty. There is pain in the day; you don’t have to be in dire straits to feel it. There are small moments of disappointment, failures, and harsh words. This is not paradise, and sometimes it hurts. Again, God knew it would be that way. So He provided a vista, a bright red rose, a sunset, all to minister beauty to us. It’s as if he says, “See, this takes your breath away, doesn’t it? I am still here, and you are loved.”
That is what I hope to present to you in this painting, beauty to encourage you–the beauty that was originally created for you, on the Third Day.
